Consisting of three workshops - Mime & Movement, Performing Comedy and Sound Engineering for Stage - it’s a great chance to build on existing skills and learn something new! All are welcome to join us on October 7th at the Essex Police Headquarters Assembly Hall. Light refreshments will be provided but please bring a packed lunch.

Tickets £10 (adults only to attend).  To book, please click here. Limited spaces available so don’t wait!

The Workshop

Session One will be run by Steve Murray, International Mime Artist. Developing our learning on the physical side of acting from last year Steve will take us from statues to movement, using our bodies to portray character and emotion.

In Session Two, sound engineer Brett Faris will be giving an input on all things “sound”. He will give insights on his role in our shows, how the system works and tips on getting the best out of the microphones.

Session Three sees the return of Andrea Dalton who will be further developing our acting skills, having us working together on various activities with a focus on comedy.

Further Information

Essex Police Musical Society is a friendly and welcoming society and no, we are not all police officers. Our membership comprises serving officers, support staff, retired officers and staff, family members and friends. In fact, EPMS is open to any adult keen to perform or assist in production roles. Above all, we aim to have fun.

Using the facilities of HQ Assembly Hall for both rehearsal and performance we aim to put on two shows a year, a musical in the Spring and a concert in the Autumn.

Rehearsals are on Monday and Thursday evenings throughout the year and as well as preparing for our performances we are also very keen to develop and promote the skills of our members. To this end we are holding an Open Workshop Day on Saturday 7th October for our members and anyone interested in joining the society.

We have obtained the services of three talented professionals to come and give input in their fields of expertise:

Our Workshop Leaders

STEVE MURRAY was always interested in drama and the performing arts. He was once shown a video and was brought to tears after watching a mime artist, Todd Farley and his company Mimeistry. From that moment in 1993, Steve was compelled to find out more about mime.

Steve then attended several week long workshops, a summer school in Missouri, U.S.A. and the full two-year program at the Mimeistry school in Los Angeles.

That was over 25 years ago and Steve has performed in over 20 nations worldwide and still performs today using his art form in Christian environments and schools

BRETT FARIS working professionally as BLFsounds, is a sound engineer, technician and producer based in Essex. After becoming interested in sound, music and technology at an early age, he progressed on to university to achieve a 1st Class Distinction in Music production and Sound Engineering at point blank Music School.

With a background rooted in theatre, Brett has diversified and gained experience in the worlds of broadcast, festivals, outdoor events and larger touring productions.                               Priding himself on being flexible and prepared for every eventuality; his everyday carry includes cables, tapes, adapters and even a bottle of Tabasco (obviously), to liven up catering on the road.

ANDREA DALTON has taught Drama for Theatretrain for over 10 years, and worked in many other Performing Arts schools, making full use of the Distinction for the Associate Diploma for teaching performing arts. She worked for 8 years with a professional touring theatre company doing everything from tech, performing, directing, tour management, and general coordinator. Alongside her teaching she is also a professional chaperone working on a range of TV and film. Andrea is also a member of several local drama groups and has enjoyed a wide variety of roles. Drama is a wonderful confidence builder, and great fun!
